Bold Face: I Want My MTV!

August 26, 2011 12:30 PM

Bold Face explores the cult of celebrity and the styles, trends and brands that stars show off in movies, at events and living their daily lives. To be considered for inclusion please contact senior editor, Deirdre Carroll.

The MTV Video Music Awards are Sunday, August 28 and are sure to attract the most exciting musical stars in the industry today. This Bold Face highlights some artists we’re sure to see on the red carpet and the sunnies they’ve been sporting lately…

Justin Beiber’s personal life has overshadowed this music a little bit in the news this year. No wonder when you are one half of Hollywood’s cutest couple. Nonetheless he is nominated in the Best Male Video category for his video for “U Smile.” Given that “the Biebs” causes a frenzy everywhere he goes his presence at the awards will no doubt cause quite a commotion, but what are the MTV Video Music Awards without screaming fans? Maybe Justin will wear these Jil Sander JS128 sunglasses from Marchon that he recently picked up in order to protect him from the photographers’ flashes…

Britney Spears has been nominated for a VMA 28 times, has won four awards and given some of the most iconic VMA performances of all time. This year she is nominated twice for Best Pop Video and Best Choreography for her hit song "Till the World Ends." This has been a big year for Brit Brit, back on top after a troubled past, she kicked off her Femme Fatale World Tour on June 16 and wore the Rendezvous sunglasses from Sama Eyewear during the concert. In fact, Britney and her dancers all completed one of their stage looks with the translucent frames with 18k white gold lens…

Katy Perry is nominated in a ton of categories at this year’s awards. She too is nominated for the Best Pop Video category for her video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” but also for Best Collaboration for “E.T.” featuring Kanye West. Additionally, her video for “Firework” was nominated for Best Female Video, Video of the Year and Best Video with a Message. Since she has had such a hot year, it is no wonder Rolling Stone tapped her to cover their June 2011 issue. In the spread, shot by Terry Richardson, she dons the Iara sunglass style from the Mykita & Alexandre Herchcovitch collaboration, among other… ahem… unique things…

Also nominated in the Best Female Video category for “Born This Way,” and undoubtedly one to watch, Lady Gaga, is not only nominated for another award, Best Video with a Message, but will be once again performing. Lady Gaga is just as well-known for her fashion sense as her music and in this picture we see her wearing a pair of vintage Ultra Caviar Sunglasses (the Caviar 8230), which she picked up from the Vintage Frames Company, Corey Shapiro’s Montreal-based vintage eyewear emporium. The Caviar Eyewear collection is distributed by Ultra Palm here in the U.S. So how will she top her meat dress this year? Tune into find out…

This one is a bit of a wild card but given her new gig as a judge on Simon Cowell’s highly anticipated new talent show X Factor, it wouldn’t surprise Bold Face if we see Nicole Scherzinger walking the carpet at Sunday’s awards show. In addition to her sweet prime time job, she also has a new music video coming out for her single “Wet,” off her debut solo album Killer Love, available in the U.S. in November. In the video the exotic beauty wears the Carrera Champion sunglasses from Safilo. Given her increasing visibility and new album it is completely possible that we will see Nicole walking the carpet next year as a nominee. Fingers crossed Nicole!

Tune into MTV on Sunday, August 28 at 9pm EST for the Video Music Awards to see these stars and more!
