DAC Int’l Acquires Opteq Technology From Contamac Ltd.

CARPENTERIA, Calif.—DAC International, based here, announced that it is acquiring the technology for the Contamac BV Opteq System from Contamac Ltd., based in the U.K.
Additionally, DAC International has entered into an agreement with Opteq R&D, based in the Netherlands, that allows DAC International to design, manufacture, sell and service the Opteq system. The system consists of the Diatop Lathe, a precision machine capable of producing polish-free lenses in a variety of materials, the Calculens software package, which is equipped to feed lens designs directly to the lathe, and a proprietary blocking system.
John McGregor, president of Contamac Ltd., said the arrangement will enable Contamac to pursue its long-term goal of developing superior materials for the production of contact and intraocular lenses. Jim Drain, president of DAC International, noted that the arrangement enables DAC to add “a high-end, polish-free, contact and intraocular lens production system to our substantial product line.”
DAC International plans to begin deliveries of the Opteq System in April, 2010.
Additionally, Ken Payne has returned to DAC International in the role of European sales manager. His career in the contact and intraocular lens industries began with Allergan U.K. He then worked with DAC for many years before becoming an engineering manager at Contamac.
In May, 2004, Contamac concluded an arrangement with Henk Kiela to create Contamac BV, based in the Netherlands, and continue the development, sales and service of the Opteq system. Payne then became managing director of Contamac BV.
