Professional Groups and Industry Execs Attend 2nd Eye Health Summit; Foundation for Eye Health Awareness Names Campbell as Managing Director

July 29, 2010 12:27 AM
ALEXANDRIA, Va.— The Foundation for Eye Health Awareness hosted the second Eye Health Summit earlier this month at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois.

Themed From the Foundation Up, the Eye Health Summit provided its 150 attendees, drawn from all sectors of the professional vision care field and optical industry with an opportunity to participate in small group and breakout activities, as well as a number of networking activities. “With participants ranging from non-profit organizations to manufacturers to managed care plans, the Summit brought together key decision-makers from throughout the vision community,” stated Mike Daley, president and executive director of the Foundation, along with board members, who welcomed Summit attendees.

This year’s format included a keynote speaker, Lynn Vos, CEO of Grey Healthcare Group, who addressed trends in healthcare communications. Foundation board members Barry Barresi, OD, PhD, Wally Lovejoy, Greg Marko and Dave Sattler gave a history of the Foundation, summarized current activities and spoke about future plans.

Eye Health Summit attendees also had a chance to learn about the Think About Your Eyes campaign, which the Foundation will begin managing in 2011. The Think About Your Eyes presentation highlighted the campaign elements, including advertising, web and social media outreach, public relations and market research.

The afternoon breakout sessions allowed members of the vision community to provide suggestions and direction on future activities of the Foundation. Select participants were invited to participate in focus groups that evaluated an upcoming Think About Your Eyes television advertisement. The remaining participants met in discussion groups that came to consensus and gave reports on the top three tactics the Foundation can use to communicate with the vision community and consolidate resources to help increase eye exams. “This year’s Summit showed that we have individuals from all areas of the vision community who are committed to improving eye health among all Americans, especially those at risk of eye disease,” said Barresi, chair of the board of directors for the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness.

In related news, the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness has appointed Stephanie Campbell as managing director.

In this role, Campbell will work closely with Daley to lead programs and initiatives developed by the board of directors. In addition, she will serve as the primary staff liaison to the development, event planning, finance, marketing and nominating committees, as well as the advisory council and donor leadership circle.

Campbell played an integral role in the planning and development of the 2009 Eye Health Summit which led to the creation of the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness. Since then, she has provided marketing and communications support to the foundation and has worked closely with the Think About Your Eyes campaign as the groups prepare to combine efforts in 2011. In her former role as the marketing manager at The Vision Council, Campbell implemented various eye health promotion activities for eyecare professionals and the public. She has also developed significant relationships with organizations in the vision industry.

Prior to entering the vision and eye health field, Campbell managed a wellness program that offered healthy solutions to over 4,000 employees. She holds a Masters in Public Health from George Washington University.
