FEA Industries Expands Free-Form Lens Production

MORTON, Pa.—FEA Industries, a full-service independent wholesale laboratory located here, has acquired two additional high production, digital surfacing lines to support the on-going growth of free-form products within their laboratory. The acquisition of this equipment and technology from Schneider Optical Machines will allow FEA to more than double their daily production of digital lenses, while bringing their total number of digital lines to four.

“FEA has been focused on educating our customers about the benefits of free-form and we are now seeing the demand take off. Our long-term plan is to continue substantial investments in both manufacturing equipment and software,” said Bill Heffner, owner of FEA.

Last year, FEA Industries added a second shift, as well as several free-form product lines, including their own Eagle progressive lens. Heffner said, “The key to having a successful digital process is not only a good design, but also having state-of-the-art digital surfacing equipment that can process the designs accurately.” With progressive sphere powers ranging from -20.00 to +15.00D, cylinders up to -10.00D and an add range of up to +4.50D, it was necessary for FEA Industries to procure machinery that had both the range and reliability to produce these designs.

“We are very excited to continue to work closely with one of the leading Rx Labs in the U.S. and look forward to a long-term partnership,” said Kevin Cross, Schneider’s director of sales in North America.

Schneider Optical Machines, Inc. is based in The Colony, Texas and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Schneider Optical Machines, GmbH, headquartered in Fronhausen, Germany.
