CINCINNATI—A new agreement between Luxottica Group (NYSE: LUX) and the Macy’s department store chain (NYSE: M) will locate additional Sunglass Hut points of sale in about 430 of Macy’s stores in the U.S. Luxottica already operates 240 Sunglass Hut locations within Macy’s.
Under terms of this new deal, Sunglass Hut will be the exclusive operator of in-store sunwear departments in Macy’s stores, and Macy’s will be the exclusive U.S. department stores with Sunglass Hut locations. The new Sunglass Hut departments will start rolling out next spring, with completion of the rollout scheduled for Spring 2011.
Said Fabio d’Angelantonio, Luxottica’s executive vice president, sun and luxury retail, “This development reinforces our commitment as a group to the department-store segment in the U.S., and to growing the overall exposure of consumers in this market to the quality sunwear category.” He added that the agreement “enables us to strengthen our presence in a market as vital to us as the U.S., and it significantly consolidates our partnership with Macy’s.”
Describing sunwear as “an important fashion and functional accessory for our customers,” Ron Klein, Macy’s chief stores officer, commented, “Through this agreement, Macy’s is able to offer a comprehensive assortment of sun eyewear, including brands not previously available in all Macy’s stores.”
Macy’s currently operates more than 850 department stores in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico. ■
