Safilo Group Signs Global Licensing Pact for Tommy Hilfiger

NEW YORK/PADUA—Safilo Group (SFL.MI) has signed a global licensing agreement for the exclusive design, development, production and distribution of Tommy Hilfiger ophthalmic and sunglass products with the Tommy Hilfiger Group through 2015 with an optional five-year extension.

This newly signed agreement gives Safilo a wonderful opportunity to develop an eyewear collection for one of the most recognized American brands in the world.”

Safilo will debut the sunglass collection for the U.S. market in Tommy Hilfiger boutiques, department stores and sunglass specialty stores in November 2010, followed by the optical collection, as well as the sunglass collection for the optical market, in January 2011.

Frank Rescigna, president of Viva International Group, told VM that Viva, which started with the Tommy Hilfiger brand in 2003, will continue to sell and service its customers on its product through September 2010.

A spokesperson for Tommy Hilfiger Group, confirmed that “Viva International Group will continue to support their product for the duration of its warranty and Safilo will support its own product beginning Fall 2010” adding that “the contract between Tommy Hilfiger and Viva will expire on March 31, 2010 and that Viva will continue to sell remaining sunglass inventory through July 2010 and remaining optical inventory through September 2010.”  ■
