US Optical Implements New Filtering Technology

January 18, 2010 12:22 AM

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Independent wholesale lab US Optical recently installed a new, custom-made filtering system in the surfacing department of its East Syracuse, N.Y. facility. The system (pictured below), designed and produced by Filtertech, allows larger solids to be used as a filter aid for the removal of finer particulate.

Rob Cotran, co-owner of US Optical, initially approached Filtertech after being dissatisfied with previous filtering systems. Filtertech, located in nearby Manlius, N.Y., manufactures filters for glass and metal grinding filtration systems. The company designed and built a filter for U.S. Optical that is virtually maintenance free and is capable of handling two to three Satisloh VFT Generators and several edgers simultaneously, according to Cotran.

“After months of R&D and testing and different changes to the filtration media, we got a filter for under $50,000 that does the job, is maintenance free and very cost effective. As we added more equipment we just piped it to this filter, and it works well, Cotran said.”
