ELECTRIC SHOCK POSTER

WHO:
Neon brights and day-glow fluorescents were all over the Spring/Summer runways of designers like Proenza Schouler, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith, Versace and Zac Posen, as well as boosting the radiance on red carpets thanks to celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger and Kirsten Dunst.

WHAT: Acid bright hues like highlighter yellow, hot pink and electric blue are amping up the voltage on summer fashion. In addition to clothes, the brilliant hues also made appearances in accessories on everything from belts, shoes and bags to jewelry, hair baubles and even cosmetics. Eyewear is the next natural category to hit the spotlight. Vibrant opticals and suns feature neon fronts, accents or trim and bold flashes of color on the interior and temples.

WEAR: A classic shape gets a futuristic update in a phosphorescent lime green in the Prada Postcards SPR19M sunglasses by Luxottica. If a little is good then a lot is better; that’s ProDesign Denamrk’s philosophy for their 1679 optical style in color 4322 (which is really just numerical code for radiant fuchsia paired with citrine green). Those Danes sure do like their color! The Orgreen Drake sunglasses in titanium feature an interior completely aglow in traffic cone orange. In the Fysh UK 3414 ophthalmic style from Wescan, an eye-popping orange is bonded to a more “wearable” red and accented with carved flowers on its wide temples. The Steve Madden brand is known for making the major fashion trends wearable and accessible, here they do it again in the P065 from Colors in Optics by pairing a vivid violet exterior with a softer teal interior.

WHY:
If your customers’ idea of summer fashion is soft pastels and nautical-inspired primary colors then it is time to add a shock of neon to their lives. These intense hues pack a lot of energy and can instantly add kilowatt power to the neutrals in a wardrobe. Their in-your-face nature is just as effective as a subtle flash of neon or mixed and matched for a bolder look. Either way, great eyewear with a florescent pop is all that’s needed for your customers’ to make a statement or become a full on fashion live wire.
