ROANOKE, Va.—PixelOptics has finalized a licensing agreement with Aspex Eyewear under which Aspex is granted exclusive rights for 10 years to manufacture, market and sell PixelOptics’ emPower! electronic eyewear in North America. Aspex will have the responsibility of manufacturing, distributing and selling the frames, which are capable of housing Pixel’s electronic focusing eyeglass lenses.
According to PixelOptics, the agreement, first announced in March, was concluded after the results of an independent clinical test showed emPower! electronic focusing eyeglasses were perceived by wearers to be superior in seven out of eight vision performance categories when compared to a leading progressive addition lens design, according to PixelOptics. emPower! performed equally in the remaining one category, the company said. The clinical test was performed during June, 2010 at six eye doctor locations in three cities across the U.S. PixelOptics did not disclose the names of the cities.
Pixel said it plans to extend electronic frame licenses to multiple frame companies, including Aspex, in Europe, South America in 2010 and in Asia in 2011.
