And Now…A Word From the Experts
Expert advice isn’t always found in the usual places. Sometimes you have to get outside your comfort zone, look to new sources, and reach beyond the expertise found in your own industry. In essence, that’s what the VM Global Leadership Summit is all about and this year’s gathering delivered on all those levels and then some.
More than 300 of the optical industry’s top executives, business managers and key decision makers came together at the Times Center on the eve of Vision Expo for a daylong Think Tank, if you will. The topics of the day were diverse, up-to-the-minute and on target. Where else could you hear about 3D vision and eye health, the allure of coupons, and the power of ODs all within the span of a few hours?
There were some familiar faces on this year’s Summit panels, including several high-powered ODs: Vision Source’s Derrick Artis, IDOC’s Mark Feder, PERC’s David Golden, ODX’s Jerry Lieblein, C&E’s Brad Shapiro and Prima Eye Group’s Jerry Hayes on New Alliances; the AOA’s Barry Barresi on 3D; and Park Slope Eye’s Justin Bazan on Social Media along with Digital Speakers, EyeBuyDirect’s Roy Hessel, EyeXam’s Nikki Iravani, OD and For Eyes’ Mark Oller. But the program, crafted by Jobson’s senior VP Marge Axelrad, had several non-optical experts sprinkled into the mix. Groupon’s Sara Beth Zivitz expounding on the phenomenon of discounts; Diet Pepsi’s Emily Silver and The CMO Club’s Pete Krainik on the marketing value of social purpose; and 3D@HomeConsortium’s Chris Haws on the explosive emergence of 3D.
