Mykita Introduces Mylon Sun Collection

November 14, 2011

By Deirdre Carroll: Senior Editor

BERLIN—After years of research Mykita has developed a material that offers unlimited design options, is lightweight and offers individual adaptability, Mylon.

Mykita Mylon marks the first time the polyamide-based material has been used for the production of spectacles. The initial collection was designed both for skiing down mountain slopes and also as classic sunglasses for everyday use. Four sun styles, the Nova, Arden, Icco and Crision, comprise the line.

Selective Laser Sintering, an additive manufacturing technique, is used to create the three-dimensional shapes and enables Mylon spectacles to be molded into any shape desired with a resulting surface reminiscent of wood grain with a thermal adaptability that makes them
fully adjustable.

All Mylon frames are fitted with lenses from ZEISS; the collaboration provides for a golfing lens, available on some models, that is specially optimized for the fairway and has been color-adjusted to increase the contrast on the green. A polarized lens option is also available.
