Block Business Academy Debuts

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—Eyecare professionals from the metropolitan New York area gathered for continuing education and leadership training at the first annual Block Business Academy, a one-day education and exposition event held here at the Sheraton Meadowlands exclusively for Block Buying Group members.

Keynote speaker at the session was Harry Carson, Hall of Fame New York Giants’ linebacker. Carson addressed the crowd for 30 minutes, signed autographs and posed for pictures with Block members. In addition, attendees and exhibitors alike received autographed copies of Carson’s new autobiography, “Captain for Life.”

 
Michael Block, president and CEO of the Block Buying Group said the theme of the day’s education was “strictly business,” with CE-accredited courses for opticians and optometrists on everything from creating a successful optical retail location to navigating through the EMR maze with a roster of expert speakers.

In addition, some 30 Block vendors featured their wares in the exhibit hall. Block pointed out this event was a first in a succession of new programs to build business success for both Block members and vendors. “Soon, we’ll be announcing an important new incentive program to our members that significantly improve the way they, and our vendors, do business,” he said.  ■
