Code Red at VisionMonday.com

November 16, 2011 12:30 AM

NEW YORK—Whether it’s anger or love, glamour or bankruptcy, few colors have the power red holds in our cultural lexicon. This week, VisionMonday.com is going the way of the poppies and celebrating all things sanguine.

Signs of the struggling economy are found in places other than the protesters “occupying” parks in cities around the country. As public institutions finds themselves in the red, budget cuts are becoming the norm. Take for example, those slashing resources throughout Milwaukee Public Schools. When school nurses were eliminated, taking with them the opportunity for children to be screened for vision problems, Wisconsin Vision stepped in. Assistant editor Delia Paunescu follows the optical retailer’s efforts to get school children the proper eyecare in this month’s Local Diary: A Lesson on the Importance of Vision Care in Schools.

Proving that seeing red isn’t about more than financials, senior editor Deirdre Carroll’s Style.Pages feature for November puts the focus on the color found everywhere from Valentino’s runway to Eric Clapton’s catalog and studding the red carpet at every award show. Check out Simply Red for a collection of frames that’ll make all Sally Jesse Raphael references irrelevant.
