Carl Zeiss Revenue Tops €4 Billion Euro Mark for First Time

December 16, 2011 12:25 AM

STUTTGART, Germany— Carl Zeiss posted significant increases in revenue and earnings for the fiscal year 2010/11 ending Sept. 30, 2011 versus the prior year. The company reported that revenue topped the €4 billion mark for the first time, with revenue of €4.237 billion versus €2.981 billion in in the prior year. Earnings (EbIT) totaled €607 million versus €423 million in the year-ago period.

“We have achieved record figures for almost all performance indicators,” said Michael Kaschke, president and CEO of Carl Zeiss. “Carl Zeiss has remained on track to continued profitable and sustained growth and has further consolidated its position as a technology leader and global player.”

Carl Zeiss attributed the growth to “favorable economic trends at the beginning of the past fiscal year” sustained by strong organic growth in revenue, particularly in Asia and America and in the industrial metrology, semiconductor manufacturing technology and medical technology business groups and the full consolidation of Carl Zeiss Vision. The vision care group, which makes eyeglass lenses, generated revenue of €849 million in fiscal 2010/11, a slight reduction over the prior year’s revenue of €881 million, according to Carl Zeiss.

The Carl Zeiss medical technology business group ended fiscal 2010/11 with revenue of €854 million, a 13 percent increase over the prior year. Carl Zeiss Meditec separately reported that it generated consolidated revenue of €758.8 million in financial year 2010/2011, compared to €676.7 million the previous year, a 12.1 percent increase. Earnings before interest and taxes increased disproportionately by 19.4 percent to €103.6 million, up from €86.7 million the previous year. The values deviate from the published figures of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG as a result of different consolidation models, Carl Zeiss noted.
