Transitions Optical Unveils Variable Polarizing Lens at Annual Meeting

February 3, 2012 1:30 PM

ORLANDO, Fla.—Transitions Optical unveiled its new Vantage variable polarized lens during its 16th annual Transitions Academy meeting, held here January 29 to January 31. The more than 1,300 industry professionals from North America, Central America and South America who attended the meeting got an in-depth look at the lens, which is the first to use a dye rather than a film to produce a polarizing effect.

Another highlight of the meeting was a preview of Transitions Optical’s new global communication campaign, featuring the theme, “Life Well Lit.” The campaign, which will run through November, is expected to generate 2.2 billion impressions and will cost upwards of $20 million, according to a Transitions Optical spokesperson.

Attendees also participated in workshops on business development conducted by experts from the consulting firm Franklin Covey. Other sessions focused on the increasing need for vision care among the aging population and the underutilization of managed vision care benefits among the workforce.

At a general session, keynote speaker Simon Sinek, summarized the key points of his book, “Start With Why,” which offers advice on how to become an effective leader and inspire change.

The meeting concluded on a high note with its Transitions Academy Awards Recognition Event, where Transitions Optical honored Optical Prescription Lab as the 21st U.S. Transitions Lab of the Year, along with Art Lens Laboratório Óptico and Vector Argentina as the ninth Brazil and Latin America Transitions Lab of the Year, respectively. Also in the U.S., Eyear Optical was honored as the second-annual Transitions Regional Retailer of the Year; Costco Optical was named the second-annual Transitions National Retailer of the Year; and Patrick Tibbs was named the second-annual Transitions Vision Benefits Broker of the Year. Transitions Optical also named Trisha Beal, O.D., the third-annual Eyecare Professional of the Year for Canada and Preferred EyeCare Center as the first-ever U.S. Eyecare Practice of the Year.—Andrew Karp, akarp@jobson.com
