Bold Face: Paris for Two

February 3, 2012 2:00 PM

Bold Face explores the cult of celebrity and the styles, trends and brands that stars show off in movies, at events and living their daily lives. To be considered for inclusion please contact senior editor, Deirdre Carroll.

Paris is the kind of city that is more fun when you have company. In this edition of Bold Face we share two celebrity pairs who enjoyed the “City of Light” à deux…

Midnight in Paris is a romantic comedy fantasy movie (surely a whole new genre of film). Written and directed by Woody Allen and staring Owen Wilson and Kathy Bates, the film is so original it has been nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. In the movie, Wilson plays Gil Pender, a screenwriter who wanders aimlessly around the streets of Paris after midnight. As he wanders he encounters literary icons from the 1920s. Kathy Bates plays Gertrude Stein, who has taken on the role of critic and editor of Pender’s work, and the two develop a strong friendship. In addition to the Best Picture nod, Midnight in Paris has already won the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay and has been nominated for three more Oscars, including Best Direction, Best Original Screenplay and Best Art Direction. Owen Wilson wears the Salvatore Ferragamo SF617S and Kathy Bates wears the Valentino V604S, both from Marchon

Another couple that has been seen wandering the streets of Paris is lovebirds Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. The actors, who have been quietly dating since September, were snapped taking a stroll through Paris' Pere Lachaise Cemetery and the city’s historic Catacombs in November. Though they presumably did not encounter any “living” dead icons, they did visit the historic resting place of famous figure like Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison. No doubt a striking couple, the attractive pair also accessorized with some fabulous eyewear. The Selima Optique Money 2 for him and the Obsessy from Thierry Lasry for the mademoiselle.
