SAN DIEGO— Carl Zeiss Vision and Vision-Ease Lens entered into a royalty-bearing license agreement under Carl Zeiss Vision International’s U.S. patent number 6,089,713 and Australian patent number 739,849.

“We’re pleased to license our patented technology to Vision-Ease via this agreement,” said Joe Donahoe, Carl Zeiss Vision’s president, North America. “The back surface freeform lens technology covered by our patents is an important innovation with significant implications for the market.”

The patents cover certain types of back-surface freeform progressive lenses and processes by which they are made, according to Carl Zeiss Vision. These include types of progressive lenses whose front surfaces are rotationally symmetric with the back-surface progressive design determined by the individual prescriptions alone or in combination with other customization options.

Both Hoya Vision Care and Essilor have also signed license agreements with Carl Zeiss Vision related to Zeiss’ ’713 patent.
