Ophthonix Closes Its Doors After 12 Years
|October 17, 2012 12:27 AM
Ophthonix, which marketed wavefront-guided vision correction technology and iZon lenses, closed its doors yesterday.
Callers to the company’s headquarters near San Diego, Calif., were greeted with a message that said, “Unfortunately, the economic situation has put the company in the position of not being able to find the capital needed to continue operations.”
The company, which was founded in December 2000, introduced a device called an “abberometer” that measured higher order aberrations of the eye. Eyecare professionals could use the measurements to order iZon prescription lenses, which were designed to correct these aberrations and which Ophthonix produced at its on-site laboratory.
