AUSTIN, Texas – VisionWeb, a leading provider of technology solutions to the eyecare industry, is entering the EHR and practice management space with the debut today of a comprehensive cloud-based practice management and EHR solution called Uprise.

“We recognized that there was a need in the practice management and EHR space for a solution that offered more accessibility, interoperability, and more enhanced work-flow than ever before,” said Ken Engelhart, president and CEO of VisionWeb. “VisionWeb has been providing productivity improving, software-as-a-service solutions in the cloud for years. Working to fill the gap that existed in the practice management/EHR space with a cloud-based solution was a natural response for us and is something we are excited to take on with this introduction.” Engelhart will unveil Uprise at “The State of Optometry: Present and Future” summit later today at Optometry’s Meeting in San Diego.

Uprise, the company said, is “the next generation in VisionWeb’s mission to make online solutions that improve day-to-day business processes more affordable and accessible for independent eyecare practitioners. Uprise is easy to implement, to afford and easy for any practice to use,” the statement added, “and it is a true cloud-based solution which users can access by logging in via Internet browser. Uprise is also designed to be friendly with both tablet and PC devices, giving users freedom to choose the hardware devices most suitable for their practices. Uprise users will not be burdened with upfront investments in hardware and servers, or the long-term investments in IT infrastructure that is needed to support a client-server solution.”

Uprise functionality includes core practice management as well as a state of the art EHR solutions developed in partnership with VitalHealth Software to meet the specialized needs of optometric practitioners, VisionWeb said. VitalHealth Software was founded in 2006 by Mayo Clinic and the Noaber Foundation “to develop next generation of cloud-based EHRs for specialty care.” In addition to the VisionWeb network for online ordering and claim filing, Uprise will feature embedded educational video content from ECHO by Eyemaginations, product catalogs with wholesale pricing information from Frames Data, and CPT and ICD-9 code process and rule verification by CodeSAFE from ReimbursementPLUS, making them native to the system. Uprise will feature monthly subscription pricing, VisionWeb said, adding that “it is HIPAA compliant, and has taken all necessary measures to ensure that Uprise meets regulatory requirements for protecting the transmission and storage of patient data.”

Started in 2001, the VisionWeb portal’s online ordering and claim filing solutions are currently used by 17,000 eyecare providers. It offers a range of additional services for eyecare providers, ophthalmic product manufacturers, distributors, laboratories and payers.
