Winning an Oscar has a way of securing a performers status as a Hollywood “legend.” In this edition of Bold Face, we showcase four legends, old and new, whose wins have assured them a place in Tinseltown’s iconography…

Last year, Robert De Niro appeared in the romantic comedy-drama, Silver Linings Playbook, as Pat Sr., the father of the bipolar Pat Solitano, played by Bradley Cooper. The role earned the acting legend his seventh Oscar nomination. He’s already won the Academy Award twice, once for Best Supporting Actor in 1974 for The Godfather Part II and once for Best Actor in 1980 for Raging Bull. He didn’t take home the statuette this time around but despite his more than half a century in the business it’s clear that he isn’t going anywhere. Another acting legend made an appearance at the 85th Academy Awards. Jack Nicholson surprised audiences by coming out to introduce the nominees for Best Picture and introducing the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, to help him announce the winner of award. The charming Nicholson is one of only two actors to be nominated for an Academy Award for acting in every decade from the 1960s to 2000s. He’s also tied with Walter Brennan and Daniel Day-Lewis (the most recent winner) for the most acting wins by a male actor at three. He won the Best Actor Oscar for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and As Good as It Gets and the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Terms of Endearment. Nicholson had a fun interaction back stage with one of the newest Oscar winners sure to become a legend in her own right, Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence, already a previous Best Actress Academy Award nominee for 2010’s Winter's Bone, which made her the second-youngest actress ever to be nominated for award at age 20, won the Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook at the ripe old age of 22. Seemingly still entirely humble and well-liked by the Hollywood community, Lawrence doesn’t seem like the sort to let the accolades go to her head. In fact, the day after her major win she was snapped leaving an L.A. salon sporting a darker hue and the Leisure Society Byron sunglasses from Baumvision as she preps to get back to work on The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire

Already a multiple Grammy Award winner, Adele, at age 24, is already well on her way to becoming a music legend. Just to secure that trajectory though, the always gracious singer recently added a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song for Skyfall to her long list of accolades. Given her youth, she has plenty of time to add an Emmy and Tony to the list if she so chooses. The singer preformed the winning song during the Oscar’s ceremony sporting her signature retro-glam look, but was also recently snapped in a much more casual all black outfit with a messy top knot and a pair of Gucci 3155 sunglasses from Safilo. Dressed to the nines or dressed down to run errands, the wildly talented singer is gorgeous either way.
