SAN DIEGO— With the click of a button, eyecare professionals can provide an eye exam and a pair of glasses to someone in a developing country. Each new “like” of AllAboutVision.com’s Facebook page will generate a $5 donation to Optometry Giving Sight ( www.givingsight.org), now through the end of November.

“Just $5 can provide an eye exam and glasses to one person through Optometry Giving Sight funded programs,” said Clive Miller, CEO for Optometry Giving Sight. “A pair of glasses can be life-transforming for someone without access to eyecare. For some, it can mean the difference between a life of poverty and a life of opportunity.”

“Not only will eyecare professionals help support the work of Optometry Giving Sight, but they will be the first to hear about eye care news and new articles on our site when they “like” us on Facebook,” said Ron Walker, publisher of AllAboutVision.com.

Optometry Giving Sight invites optometrists and the optical community in the U.S. and Canada to take part in the fifth annual World Sight Day Challenge on Oct.13 to raise funds for people who are needlessly blind or vision impaired due to uncorrected refractive error.

Optometrists are invited to take the Challenge by donating their eye exam fees on World Sight Day, or any other day in October, or they can join their colleagues across the profession by making a personal or practice donation at www.givingsight.org. Practices are also encouraged to involve their staff and patients by having an office celebration throughout the month.

Online since 2000, AllAboutVision.com is an independent resource providing consumers with hundreds of pages of trustworthy, up-to-date information on vision correction and eye health.
