Art and film is often only realized thanks to the creator’s unique vision; given this point of view, collaboration between both mediums and the world of eyewear is a natural. In our latest edition of Hi Vis we highlight three companies and the ways they are bringing more attention to this synergy… For the third consecutive year, Persol was a sponsor of the Tribeca Film Festival, which ran from April 17-28. With the Luxottica brand’s unwavering commitment to film, the international festival allows Persol the opportunity to support filmmakers and promote New York City as a major filmmaking center. As part of their sponsorship, Persol held an exclusive screening of the Chiara Clemente film Atelier Persol, “a tale of inspiration, craft and imagination from the perspective of eight unique artists” on April 18. In addition to the film screening, Persol also hosted the annual Director’s Brunch on April 23 at City Winery in Downtown Manhattan. Guests included Luxottica USA president, Andrea Dorigo, and festival founders Jane Rosenthal and Robert DeNiro... In conjunction with Milan Image Art Fair (MIA) held from May 10-12, the most prestigious and internationally renowned photography and video art event in Italy, Safilo’s Polaroid Eyewear, a sponsor of the event, joined forces with Maurizio Galimbertion an exclusive artistic project. Galimberti, who is an “Instant Polaroid Artist,” as he likes to call himself, has created a unique series of 16 photo-mosaics for Polaroid Eyewear that portray eight people representative of modern-day Milan. He used different photo techniques for the 16 portraits including traditional Polaroid film for the eight photos featuring the subjects wearing Polaroid Plus sunglasses and the new Polaroid “Impossible Film” emulsion for the “naked eye” shots. The photos will be displayed in a dedicated exhibition space at Superstudio Più, where Galimberti’s Live Performance/Portrait will also take place on May 10. “I remember when I started out in photography many, many years ago with the magical Polaroid brand,” said the artist, “and now I have the opportunity to work with Polaroid again and to photograph the brand’s iconic sunglasses using its innovative film…” As a longtime supporter of the nonprofit, REACT to FILM, Baumvision has helped sponsor events on behalf of the organization in the past at such locations like NYC’s MoMA and Soho House. This year the company has stepped up to become the Lead Sponsor of the organization’s first fundraiser, the REACT to FILM First Annual Film Award Show and Party on May 15. The award show will be held at a private residence with special guest, actor Adrian Grenier. The priority of REACT to FILM is its High School Education Program and College Action Network, which launched in 2011 to inspire young people to engage in the real issues of today. As part of this year’s event awards will be given including: the Youth Visionary Award to Adrian Grenier for How To Make Money Selling Drugs, the Film Award to Kirby Dick for his Oscar nominated film, The Invisible War, and the Excellence in Teaching Awards to Michael Melvin from Achievement First Brooklyn High School and Janelle Heatley from KIPPNYC.
