SCENE + HEARD: Shows Industry Gets Down to Business as Expo Kicks Off By Staff Thursday, September 6, 2012 9:00 AM LAS VEGAS—Over the next three days, attendees and exhibitors alike will be treated to the latest trends in eyecare, eyewear, equipment and lens technology as Vision Expo West opens its doors here today. While pre-registration figures were not available at presstime, show organizers remained positive about the business climate of the show. "The buzz from last year’s show has not died down,” said Tom Loughran, vice president for Reed Exhibitions. “Since 2011, we have strengthened the quality of attendee and buying power on the show floor. Our Optimum Program, which includes million dollar practices, Vision Monday’s Top 50 Retailers and boutique buyers, has grown in participation by 22 percent. We’ve also added 11 new groups to our Partner Program, for a total of 38. “Throughout the show, these organizations will host multiple networking events, meetings and attend education to better our industry as a whole,” he said. Dates for next year’s Vision Expo West are as follows: Continuing Education: Oct. 2-5, 2013 Exhibits: Oct. 3- 5, 2013.
