SYDNEY, Australia—Luxottica Group (NYSE: LUX) plans to roll out a new Sunglass Hut retail concept inside all 65 Myer department stores in Australia, with the first 30 units to open by November.

Those 30 initial locations will be shop-within-a-shop concepts bearing the Sunglass Hut name—the remaining 35 Myer stores will get a non-Sunglass Hut branded concept, coming over the next few months and also managed by Sunglass Hut.

The concept stores will carry Luxottica’s luxury sunwear brands, with some of those brands making their first appearance in the Myer stores.

The two companies’ agreement follows successful trials of the Sunglass Hut concept in Myer stores here and on Australia’s Gold Coast, according to a Luxottica announcement.

Describing the program as “a unique sunglasses concept in Australia,” Chris Beer, Luxottica’s chief executive for Australasia, said, “This is a great opportunity for Luxottica that allows us to play to strengths in our produce range and specialist knowledge of luxury brands, while delivering a solution that will strengthen Myer’s position in the premium sunglass category.”

Beer added, “Being involved in the refurbishment for each store also ensures a high quality fit-out that reflects the luxury element of our designer sunglasses and is perfectly aligned to Myer’s broader fashion-focused offering.”
