LONDON – After a day’s delay, and in only six knots of wind, the Men’s 470 sailing team from Australia took the Gold Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. The team of Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page, coached by National Champion, Victor Kovalenko, is part of Maui Jim’s group of Ambassadors who represent the fastest growing premium sunglasses maker in the world.

“Everyone at Maui Jim sends their congratulations to Mathew and Malcolm,” said Harry Rhodes, vice president of sales for Maui Jim. “They are outstanding athletes, but more importantly, they are terrific people with big hearts and loads of passion for their sport. We’re glad that Maui Jim is included in the equipment that helps them be at the top of their game!”

In the final Olympic race, Australia, Great Britain, Argentina and Croatia jockeyed for position in the light winds on the south coast of Britain. Despite valiant maneuvers by Great Britain's Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell, Belcher and Page were too strong and finished ahead of the host nation sailors, who would have needed at least one boat between them and the Australians to take gold. Great Britain ended the race with the Silver Medal. The Argentinian team of Lucas Calabrese and Juan De La Fuente took Bronze.
