ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Among the top reasons consumers cited for their choice of spectacle lenses, two relate to recommendations from the doctor and/or retailer, according to the latest statistics available from The Vision Council’s VisionWatch report for the 12-month period ending March 2015.

The number one response consumers selected as their most important reason for making a particular spectacle lens choice was “doctor/retailer recommended,” according to the most recent consumer trend survey conducted among 110,000 respondents four times per year. The fifth most popular reason was “doctor/retailer said best regardless of price.”

The three other reasons rounding out the top five were “looked best” with 14.3 percent of respondents citing that reason, “good price” with 11.7 percent, and “lens wore previously” with 10.2 percent, as shown in the graph below, which also includes three other top consumer reasons for selecting spectacle lenses—“got darker and lighter,” “material,” and “came with frame.”
