NEW YORK—This year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s annual Contact Lens Health Week will take place from Aug. 19 to 23. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Contact Lens Health Starts With You,” and is aimed to encourage ECPs to share healthy wear and care recommendations with their contact lens patients. Together with the American Optometric Association, the CDC will promote Contact Lens Health Week through a variety of channels, including a Facebook live stream on Monday, Aug. 19, at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

The live stream on Monday will be hosted by the CDC’s medical epidemiologist, Dr. Jennifer Cope, and Dr. Barbara Horn, president of the AOA. During the live stream, Drs. Horn and Cope will share information and resources for doctors to help educate their contact lens patients. In addition, they will discuss findings from the CDC’s upcoming Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report relevant to contact lenses.

Alongside this Facebook live stream, the CDC will host a Reddit Ask Science chat on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

Resources for Contact Lens Health Week, including a tool kit for ECPs, are available through the CDC here. ECPs, industry professionals and anyone interested can tune into the AOA’s Facebook page at 2:00 p.m. on Aug. 19 to join the live chat, which Vision Monday will also be participating in.
