CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.—ABB Optical Group, a leading resource for identifying optical industry trends, recently released market data showing that daily disposable contact lenses led the category for dollar growth and market share nationally in 2017. At the same time, the two-week lens modality declined.

“Our organic practice growth, or same-store sales, show that practices posted robust growth in 2017,” said Aaron See, vice president of marketing for ABB Optical Group. “We expect continued strong performance in the year to come.”

Daily disposable growth was up nearly 19 percent, exiting the year with a market share of 44.6 percent. The two-week modality was down 6.8 percent in sales with a 21.4 percent market share, while monthlies were up 3.8 percent and accounted for a 33.5 percent market share.

Additionally, torics and multifocals continued to grow. Dollar growth of torics was up nearly 10 percent and multifocals were up 14 percent. In 2017, ABB Optical Group also reported a 7.2 percent organic contact lens growth from practices that have chosen to partner with the company.
