NEW YORK—The Optical Business Barometer (OBB), a monthly gauge of general business attitudes among independent ECPs as surveyed by Jobson Research, rose to a 3.8 in March. The increase reflects a return to positive attitudes toward business among independent eyecare professionals. The 3.8 rating rose from a 3.7 in February, but is lower than March 2012 rating of 3.9. March 2011 and 2012 stood at 3.9 and 3.7, respectively.

NEW YORK—The Optical Business Barometer (OBB), a monthly gauge of general business outlook attitudes among independent ECPs as surveyed by Jobson Research, showed a slight decrease for February 2013 rating with its latest index measuring a 3.7 for February as compared to a 3.8 measured in January 2013. The current February rating also reflects a decrease compared to that of February 2012, which stood at 3.9, but stands above February ratings from 2011 and 2010, which stood at 3.6 and 3.5, respectively.

Though the rating stands one point lower than last year’s December rating of 3.8, independents’ attitudes were indexed at 3.7 in December 2012 as compared to 3.6 in November.vely. Furthermore, the average of overall ratings from January through November 2012 stands at a 3.7 as compared to 3.6 in 2011 and 3.5 in 2010.

The overall business rating for independent optical retail rose from a 3.4 in October to a 3.6, which also stands above November ratings of 2011 and 2010, which stood at 3.5 and 3.3, respectively. Furthermore, the average of overall ratings from January through November 2012 stands at a 3.7 as compared to 3.6 in 2011 and 3.5 in 2010.

The average rating from January through October 2012 stands at 3.7, a slight increase from the average across the same ten-month periods in 2011 and 2010, which stood at 3.6 and 3.5, respectively.
