NEW YORK—During the COVID-19 pandemic, many eyecare practices across the country have temporarily shut down and business has dropped off. Jobson Optical Research is tracking optical business metrics for the U.S. to determine the trajectory of the downturn, monitor its duration, and uncover which regions first begin heading in a positive direction. A new weekly report, the Jobson COVID-19 Practice Performance Tracker, will be issued every Tuesday. The April 14 edition reflects that optical practices across the U.S. have shut down to slow the spread of COVID-19, and their latest sales statistics show a continued steep decline in overall business.

Nearly all (89.9 percent) of the 1,306 eyecare professional respondents in the fifth wave of Jobson Optical Research’s Coronavirus ECP survey, conducted April 7-9, are in locations currently operating under stay-at-home orders.

The Practice Performance Tracker also illustrates Regional Breakouts of ECP practice metrics across several measures of business, including ECP gross revenues, exams and refractions, frame units, spectacle lens pairs and contact lens pairs sold at ECPs. This data is compiled by Jobson Research from GPN and ABB Analyze () data.

Another element of the report illustrates Consumer Sentiments about COVID-19 response and purchasing intentions, with data supplied by The Vision Council.
