INSIGHTS Thinking About Data in a New Way: AI + A-Eye By Marge Axelrad Monday, April 24, 2017 12:00 AM The profound changes brought about by digital technologies continue to be a challenge for many businesses, large and small. So when it comes to new and even more complex waves of technology, like those that characterize artificial intelligence, or AI, the reaction is often so overwhelming, that many business leaders choose to look away. In fact, AI is a new way of looking at data and data interpretation so that better decisions can be made. Much is still in the early stages of development in the field of AI, but some of it has already begun in areas as diverse as retailing, health care, entertainment and transportation as systems “learn” about behaviors, conditions, preferences and purchases to suggest future choices. Vision Monday tackled just some of the bigger questions, trends and definitions about AI from experts in the field at its Global Leadership Summit this year. And we intend to continue to bring specific programs and strategies to the attention of our Summit attendees as they explore ways to leverage the information they already have and strategize or prioritize what they’ll need in the future. AI doesn’t have to be a Big Business topic, though. Most small businesses are already tapping information they are gathering from consumer purchases, specific product sales, exam rates and they are starting to put together helpful “dashboards” and visual graphs to monitor those trends and adjust accordingly. Data can be actionable. Getting familiar with its value will help you create better experiences for patients, customers and your own successful businesses. maxelrad@jobson.com
