Alexander “Alex” Liener
CARROLLTON, Texas—Alexander “Alex” Liener, A&A Optical, founder, namesake and optical industry veteran, passed away on May 7, 2018. Liener was born in Hungary on Feb. 20, 1931 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1956. A Holocaust survivor, Liener started his career in optical in 1966 as the first Texas sales consultant for East Coast Optical (now Safilo) and built a legacy through his perseverance, passion and zest for success, fulfilling his “American dream.” In 1971, Liener and his wife, Agnes, opened their own eyewear business distributing frames throughout Texas. He was the touchpoint of every part of, A&A Optical, their growing business, and was a pioneer in his out of the box thinking and as a savvy businessman.

Throughout his time at A&A Optical, Liener developed and launched many collections, with a focus on lifestyle, quality, and fit, including Marie Claire. Most notably, the Alexander Collection debuted in 1984.

In 1998, Liener retired, but he could still be found around the A&A Optical offices discussing upcoming product launches and brainstorming marketing tactics with employees. His appearance at the annual A&A company holiday party was always a highlight of the event, the company said.

Services for Liener were held last week at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Shaare Tefilla, 6131 Churchill Way, Dallas, TX 75230.
