CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.— ABB Optical Group, based here, announced that Emily Ashworth has joined the company as chief technology officer.

In her new position, Ashworth will be responsible for driving online business and leading the ongoing development of ABB Optical’s e-commerce platform. Overseeing the company's information technology (IT) department, Ashworth's responsibilities also include evaluating overall IT operations, managing the design and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software, evaluating and procuring new hardware and software to meet company needs, and planning for all IT related activities.

“Emily's impressive expertise and experience in the technology industry established her as the stand-out candidate,” said ABB Optical Group president Brad Weinbrum. “As a business-minded IT leader with the ability to think outside the box, we have no doubt that Emily will make a meaningful contribution to ABB Optical’s operations.”

Ashworth has more than 20 years of experience across multiple industries, including utilities, manufacturing, telecommunications, distribution, and commercial software, as well as extensive experience in enterprise architecture development, business process re-engineering, and software selection, integration and implementation.

Previously, Ashworth served as business information officer and segment CIO of the land division of World Fuel Services, a publicly traded, global fuel logistics supplier, distributor and marketer. Prior to that, she served as vice president and CIO of the American Water Works Company, where she developed and implemented IT strategies, led the technology management team and was instrumental in creating an enterprise architecture discipline. Under her leadership, the company received several awards including Computerworld’s Top 100 Places to Work in IT and an award for technology vision from software firm SAP.
