NEW YORK— Adlens, the UK-based variable focus eyewear specialist, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with global eyewear distributor Soluciones Opticas Group.

The agreement, signed in December 2012 and effective since March 2013, has led to the creation of Adlens LatinAmerica, a partnership that will facilitate the sale of Adlens’existing products including Hemisphere and Emergensee, as well as all future products built on Adlens proprietary Fluid-Injection and Alvarez technology in the Latin American marketplace.

The project will initially include TV spots, a range of commercial distribution channels (led by 400 stores of the Walmart Group), and key government and health institutions. The partnership also includes plans for expansion into Chile, Panama, Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela, according to an announcement from Adlens here at Expo.

“Soluciones Opticas Group have an outstanding established reputation in the eyewear industry across the globe,” said Adlens CEO and executive chairman Michael C. Ferrara. “This strategic partnership will strengthen our position as we prepare to launch our products into the Latin American market.”

Leonel Puente from the Puente family, the principals of Soluciones Opticas Group, said, “We are delighted to be partnering with the market leader in variable focus eyewear. Adlens’ innovative range of products are already proving popular elsewhere, and we are looking forward to working with the talented Adlens team to create a strong proposition in the Latin American markets.”

The Adlens Latin America executive management group will be made up of Leonel Puente and his sons Luis and Jorge, under the direction of a board composed of an equal number of executives from both parties and responsible for all strategic decision making.
