ST. LOUIS—The American Optometric Association Paraoptometric Section has designated Sept. 15-21, 2013, as Paraoptometric Recognition Week to honor paraoptometrics for their dedication to the patients they serve and the profession of optometry. The AOA Paraoptometric Section offers a free promotional kit with over 30 ideas for appreciating paraoptometrics during this 11th annual Paraoptometric Recognition Week and throughout the entire year. Kits are available by sending an email to pararecognition@aoa.org.

“Paraoptometrics are key members of the eyecare delivery team in optometric offices all across the country. Their role is even more critical to providing the best patient care possible in today’s health care environment,” according to a statement from the AOA Paraoptometric Section. Virginia optometrist, Dr. Peter Guhl agreed, “Knowledgable, educated paraoptometrics are critical for optometry. We lag other fields in leveraging doctor’s time. This will become even more critical as health care reform increases demand for services at reduced rates.”
