ORLANDO—The American Optometric Foundation (AOF) in partnership with the Allergan Foundation, announced the 2016-2017 recipient of the Allergan Research Grant. The competitive grant is awarded to a talented optometrist and/or vision scientist who is an American Academy of Optometry (AAO) member and is currently undertaking pioneering research in the areas of glaucoma and/or the anterior segment.

Stephen A. Burns, PhD, FAAO, and professor at Indiana University School of Optometry, received a $60,000 grant for his project, “High Resolution, Adaptive Optics Imaging of the Trabecullar Meshwork in Vivo.”

Brett J. King, OD, FAAO, clinical professor and Thomas J. Gast, MD, PhD, senior scientist at Indiana University were co-investigators on this project.

“We congratulate Dr. Burns and his team on his award and cutting edge research that will eventually improve our patients’ eye health,” said AOF President David Kirschen, OD, PhD, FAAO.

Dr. Burns and his team will be honored for their achievement at the annual AOF Celebration Luncheon during Academy 2017 Chicago taking place from Oct. 11-14.
