FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J.—The number of current and future optometrists and a discussion about the recent AOA Workforce Study, featuring Jennifer Smythe Coyle, OD, MBA, current president of ASCO (Associations of Schools & Colleges of Optometry) and dean of the Pacific University College of Optometry, will be the topic on the Dec. 3 "Power Hour." The weekly radio show is broadcast at 9:00 p.m. ET, hosted by Gary Gerber, OD, founder of The Power Practice.

Gerber said, "Are there really too many ODs? It's said so often but does the data really support that there are too many doctors? Listen to our guest, Jennifer Smythe Coyle, OD, MBA, the current president of ASCO, as she discusses the AOA Workforce study and its implications for our profession. We'll be talking about the effect of the ACA on patient volume, the use of technology that increases efficiencies in practices, the effects of a doctor's gender and age on the study results, and how the study data can be used to answer the other large and looming question, 'Are there too many OD schools?'"

The Power Hour is sponsored by Essilor of America, Optovue, VisionWeb and VSP Global. Details about the shows, including how to listen in and links to previous episodes, can be found online at PowerHourInfo.
