RICHMOND, Va.—Dennis Mayo, director of programs and operations for Essilor Vision Foundation and Danny Singer, vice president of Eastern region lab operations for VSP have joined the board of directors for Conexus, a non-profit organization committed to the detection and treatment of vision problems in children in the U.S.

“Through their professional experience with Essilor and VSP, two leading companies in the vision industry, we are confident Mr. Mayo and Mr. Singer will help fuel our mission to expand vision detection and treatment services for children,” said Ed Greene, former CEO of The Vision Council and member of the Conexus board. He added, “ VSP has supported Conexus through their Sight for Students voucher program and recently Conexus has partnered with Essilor Vision Foundation on two significant children’s vision initiatives in Virginia.”

“With one in four U.S. children facing day-to-day challenges with undetected vision problems, the challenge for Conexus and the vision industry is very serious and requires immense resources and nationwide collaboration,” added Charles Pegram, OD, Conexus board chair. “Mr. Mayo and Mr. Singer will provide national and industry perspective and in-depth knowledge to our board as Conexus endeavors to end the vision crisis for America’s children through the expansion of our VisioCheck service model,” he noted.

VisioCheck, a comprehensive, school-based children’s vision program, is the flagship service model for Conexus. VisioCheck includes: the initial, technology-based assessment, parent and caregiver education, a printed report for each student and vouchers for free eye exams and free glasses (if needed) for qualified families with children whose results indicate a potential vision problem. Conexus uses a private, proprietary database to track the detection-to-treatment cycle for each participating student in in order to document success and identify areas for improvement in the service model.
