CINCINNATI, Ohio—Harry E. Fagedes, OD, a founder of Diversified Ophthalmics, passed away on Aug. 5, 2016 at age 85.

After graduating from The Ohio State University School of Optometry in 1954, Dr. Fagades joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid as a communications officer during the Korean War. He excelled in business, earning a Masters in business administration from Xavier University.

Dr. Fagades was a founding member and chairman of the board of Diversified Ophthalmics. Following his retirement from Diversified in 2006 he owned and operated Indiana Ophthalmics in Indianapolis until his final retirement in 2012.

Dr. Fagades practiced in downtown Cincinnati and Price Hill for many years, and was active in his profession, serving as the president of the Ohio Optometric Association, and in community outreach for eye health. He was honored as one of approximately 100 Notable Ohio State University College of Optometry Graduates as part of the college’s 2014 Centennial celebration.

Dr. Fagades is survived by his wife of more than 60 years Dorothy (Dee) Fagedes, four children Kathleen Rork, COL, Kevin Fagedes (USA-Ret), Jennifer M. Garrity, OD and James Fagedes. Dr. Garrity is also a graduate of the OSU College of Optometry. She practices in Cincinnati with her husband, John J. Garrity, OD (OSU 1990).
