CHICAGO—At its second annual national meeting here at the Indian Lakes Resort, the Energeyes Association announced its first membership-based elections for three board seats, presented its President’s Council Award, and refined its unique “vendor speed meeting” format.The three new board members elected by the Energeyes membership are Adam Phelps, OD, of Tennessee, Nikil Patel, OD, of Georgia, and Christopher Envani, OD, of Wisconsin. All will serve terms of two years. “This was a the first time that the membership elected members to our board,” said Jennifer Geertz, OD, Energeyes board secretary. During the event, “vendor speed meetings” were facilitated by requiring each attending member to have eight, 30-minute one-on-one or small group meetings with attending members. About the format, Dmitry Gutkovich, OD, board member and industry relations leader, said, “We made some refinements this year and held the number of participating vendors constant. With the increase in attendance, the average number of meetings for each vendor was about 23.” In addition, the Energeyes board presented the President’s Council Award to Ernest Bowling, OD, who practices in Gadsden, Ala., and is the chief optometric editor of Optometry Times.
