LOUIS—Enhanced Medical Services (EMS) purchased the Florida-based Vision Systems Inc. (VSI), becoming the largest reseller of ophthalmic equipment in the U.S., the company reported. EMS has also purchased Burton Ophthalmic Inc., VSI’s private label ophthalmic equipment line. The acquisition price was undisclosed. “This deal not only gives the EMS team greater reach in the industry, but it is also beneficial to our customers,” said Tony Genovese, founder and CEO of EMS. “They’ll now have access to a wider selection of new and pre-owned equipment, and our service teams will be enhanced by the combined knowledge and resources.” In the terms of the deal, all VSI employees were retained and the owners of VSI will remain with the company. VSI will currently operate as a division of EMS. The Burton private label line of ophthalmic equipment will be added to the EMS lineup of products with the acquisition. This line of lane equipment includes chairs, stands, slit lamps and more. “EMS has long been a company that we have admired and respected,” said Jeff Wheaton, president of VSI. “When we decided to pursue this transition, we wanted a company that shared similar ideals and business values. We are very happy to pass the baton to Tony and his team to continue the VSI tradition of high-quality sales and service.” This is EMS’ third acquisition in three years and doubles their inventory, annual sales and employee base, according to the company. With the addition of VSI, EMS now has facilities in St. Louis, Chicago, Houston and Tarpon Springs, Fla.
