Latest News FDA Adds One Company and Removes Another From its Red List By Staff Wednesday, April 1, 2015 12:24 AM ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has updated its Import Alert 86-07 by adding the Chinese company, Wenzhou N&A Foreign Trade Corp. and removing Chao Zhou Kai Tai (Kui Hu) Optical Mfg. Co., also a Chinese company from its list, according to an announcement from The Vision Council. See earlier coverage on VisionMonday.com. This now brings the total number of red-listed foreign companies on the Import Alert 86-07 back to 22. The FDA’s Red List is comprised of foreign manufacturers whose FDA regulated products, relating to the imports of impact-resistant lenses in eyeglasses and sunglasses, have failed the impact-resistance test (the drop ball test). As a result of these products being shipped with impact resistance certificates stating the items passed the drop ball test, they are considered misbranded merchandise by the FDA. These shipments are therefore to be detained by the FDA without physical examination if brought to the U.S. So, the goods purchased from any of the companies on the Red List, will automatically be detained by the FDA upon arrival to U.S. Customs and will most likely have to be exported or destroyed.
