MIRAMAR, Fla.—For Eyes,  the U.S. operating unit of GrandVision NV (EURONEXT: GVNV), has established the For Eyes Foundation 501 (c)(3), a non-profit dedicated to improving eye health in the underserved communities of Florida, according to an announcement this week. The purpose of the foundation is to “address, educate, coordinate and provide aid and relief to those in need of vision care,” the company noted. “Creating a charitable foundation has been a long-standing goal of ours and we are excited to see the impact it has on eye health in traditionally at-risk communities," For Eyes chief executive officer Jose Costa said in the announcement.

"We're also thrilled to be mobile and have the ability to visit all areas of our home state to make a positive impact. And, World Sight Day was the perfect kickoff for our Foundation's vision."

As part of its World Sight Day efforts and to give back to the community, the For Eyes Foundation hosted an inaugural event in Hialeah, Fla., and also launched the For Eyes Mobile Unit, a van equipped with the latest digital eye exam technology, according to the announcement. The objective was to promote and deliver eye exams on-site at the Salvation Army.

With the help of Hialeah's Salvation Army and the donated time of Dr. Carlos Mesa, For Eyes was able to provide comprehensive eye exams to several members in the local community, the announcement noted. Those members who needed a prescription, then received a free pair of glasses, which were fabricated in the local For Eyes manufacturing lab.

The For Eyes Foundation was established to make a local positive impact, and it will devote time, energy and resources to eliminating and alleviating blindness by providing eye exams to underserved areas, the company noted. Founded in 1972 in Philadelphia, For Eyes has grown to over 100 stores across the U.S.
