Latest News Frame Works America Inc. Announces Agreement With Mazzucchelli 1849 S.p.A for Frame Production in U.S. By Staff Wednesday, May 4, 2016 12:27 AM Mazzuchelli’s Corrado Brustio (l) with Frameworks’ William Vetri. WEST HAMPTON, N. Y.—Frame Works America Inc., a U.S.-based eyewear manufacturing company based here, has announced that it’s bringing back acetate production to the USA “in a big, biodegradable way," beginning later this summer. William Vetri, president of Frame Works of America, said he has secured an exclusive manufacturer agreement with Mazzucchelli the Italy-based acetate producer, and the rights to use the company's M49 granules, which are 100 percent biodegradable, for eyewear production here. M49 by Mazzucchelli, uses natural renewable material sources. With one newly tooled machine ready, Vetri's company can now produce 90,000 units per month, he said, adding, “This should be a nice start to serve the industry well. With two other machines in the tooling process, I believe with controlled growth we will handle the growing demand." In the 1980’s, Vetri maintained a prototype shop in New York. Over time it evolved into an R&D company specializing in design and sourcing which led to the development of Spectaculars, a limited production eyewear brand that highlights iconic American styles of the last century. The company started producing a limited amount in the U.S. in 2008 before opening Frame Works America in 2010. The company services 20 countries worldwide. Vetri said, “There is a need for an American made product. Our biggest hurdle in American manufacturing is material. Our main production relies on the import of acetate. We have always had a relationship with Mazzucchelli and have spent many hours in discussions with them about how to bring back competitive manufacturing to the USA.”M49 granules, a new means of acetate eyewear production, is a more efficient process which minimizes waste, he said, adding that M49 has the highest standard for medical application being one of the most hypoallergenic materials available. “With the current global push for eco awareness and Proposition 65 warnings, we have hopes that the whole industry will switch over to M49. It makes sense.”Vetri said the company is discussing private label options with some U.S. companies. Mazzucchelli 1849 S.p.A, an Italian company based in Castiglione Olona, is a worldwide leader in the manufacturing and distribution of cellulose acetate, a polymer of natural origin, traditionally used in the production of optical and sunglass frames.
