SALT LAKE CITY, Utah—At the 2014 Cannes Lions Festival last week, the Glasses.com 3-D virtual try-on app won a Bronze Award for “Creative Use of Technology” and made the shortlist in the “User Experience” category.

In addition, the Glasses.com app recently won a Webby Award for “Best Use of Device Camera” at the 18th Annual Webby Awards presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences in New York, May 2014. The app was also recognized at the Appy Awards at Internet Week New York in May 2014, winning in the “Retail” category and also taking home the highest honor of “Best in Show.”

The Glasses.com app lets shoppers virtually try on frames, using facial mapping to allow users to see a 180-degree view of how the frames will look on their face. Since its release in July 2013, with an advance introduction by VMail in April 2013, the app has been downloaded over 1.3 million times, according to a statement from the company.

“We believe that everyone should have glasses that they truly love,” said Glasses.com president, Carlo Privitera. “Fueled by that belief, we embraced the latest in technology and pushed the envelope in creating the Glasses.com app, ultimately empowering our customers to find their perfect pair through a fun and easy shopping experience. We’re thrilled to have our efforts recognized at this year’s Cannes Lions Festival.”

Luxottica Group S.p.A. (NYSE: LUX) acquired Glasses.com from WellPoint Inc. in January 2014, as reported by VMail.
