TORONTO, Ontario—The Global Council on Myopia Management has announced its inaugural meeting. The meeting will take place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from June 7 to 8, 2019. The GCOMM 2019 Conference will address all aspects of myopia management, from what we know now to the treatments of tomorrow, as well as integration of myopia management into optometric practices. In addition, over 16 hours of COPE-approved continuing education will be completed by expert-led workshops and presentations. Speakers at the conference will include: Stanley Woo, MS, OD; Earl Smith, OD, PhD; Andrei Tkatchenko, MD, PhD; Peter Zhi Chen, MD, PhD; Pat Caroline, COT, FCLSA; Michael Lipson, OD, FAAO, FSLS; Eddie Chow, OD, FAAOMC; Jeffrey Cooper, MS, OD; Shalu Pal, OD, FAAO, FSLS; Craig W. Norman, FCLSA; Randy Kojima, FAAO, FBCLA, FSLS, FIAO; Gary Gerber, OD; Justin Bazan, OD; and Desmond Cheng, OD, PhD.

Dr. Edward Chow, GCOMM president, explained the importance of this first-ever conference, saying, “An estimated 1.5 billion people will be myopic by 2020. It is now more important than ever to spread awareness on this epidemic and provide education on prevention and treatment.”
