LEWISVILLE, Texas— Hoya Vision Care announced that it recently opened a laboratory in Clive, Iowa, near Des Moines.

“We are excited to bring Hoya’s leading edge lens designs, materials and treatments to local independent practitioners as well as provide additional training, customized reporting that helps uncover growth opportunities, in-office ABO seminars and other tools to help advance practice profitability and provide the best vision solutions for patients,” said Cheryl Oberlee, regional manager for Hoya Vision Care.

Although the new lab is not as large as some Hoya labs, it will expand its operations over the next eight to 12 months to include processing Hoya’s SuperHiVision AR lenses and free-form surfacing, according to a Hoya spokesperson.

The staff at the new lab includes Melinda Hunter, who is ABOC and has 45 years of experience in the lens and lab business; Sarah Thomason, who has nearly five years of optical industry experience, and Justin Thompson, who has worked as a quality control lead optician at Oakley and as manager at the Grant Optometric Group in Costa Mesa, Calif.
