MELBOURNE, Australia—Medmont International Pty Ltd has announced the donation of $15,000 to the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association (CLMA).

Bob Heavyside, president of Medmont, a global leader in manufacturing of software and equipment for the ophthalmic market, said, “We are very pleased to be able to make this donation to the CLMA, especially at a time when the CLMA needed it the most. Considering the proud 54-year history of the CLMA, it is an honour to be able to provide our contribution and to be a part of this great institution.”

Due to recent changes within the industry and the dropping out of two key sponsors, the association was faced with a large potential short fall in contribution, Medmont said. Considering the CMLA also funds the GP Lens Institute (GPLI), a key educator to gas permeable contact lens specialists, the loss of these funds would have had a major impact on the association and its members.

Medmont, along with other CLMA labs, have come together in a show of support for the CMLA and donated the funds that were needed. Heavyside added, “The nonstop support that Medmont has received from every Lens Manufacturer and GP specialist in the USA made this a very easy decision for us. We hope we can provide support for the foreseeable future.”

Precision Technology Services, based in Vancouver British Columbia is the North American distributor for Medmont.
