NEW YORK—A new, individualized scorecard report for optometrists and ophthalmologists titled, MyMedicareMetrics is now available, based on publically available Medicare information. This personalized report, produced by Jobson ECP Services in conjunction with focalCenter and Optometric Medical Solutions summarizes, evaluates and compares a provider’s individual Medicare payments and code activity against state and national benchmarks.

MyMedicareMetrics, which is available via Jobson Research is a customized comparison of a provider’s activity to their peers in their state and across the U.S, based upon the most recent data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS, 2012 data and 2015 fee schedule). This data release by the agency was part of an effort to make U.S. health care system more transparent affordable, and accountable.

MyMedicareMetrics analyzes the vast amount of data from this new release, highlighting and ranking services and procedures provided to Medicare beneficiaries by U.S.-based optometrists and ophthalmologists. By purchasing this report, ophthalmic providers receive a dashboard view of their specific Medicare payments and activities in total, by code, as well as those of their peers and a look at 2015 fees. This report enables providers to assess and contrast their services and coding for the first time.

MyMedicareMetrics details provider and peer measurements that allow users to compare payments and rank versus their professional peers nationally. It ranks the top 10 providers in the user’s state, along with the number of services provided, number of beneficiaries, number of CPT codes used and also compares the user’s CPT code utilization to the top 40 codes nationwide. With MyMedicareMetrics, more than 25,000 optometrists have the first opportunity to view their past Medicare payments compared to the new 2015 CMS Fee Schedule.

In addition, for those practices that want to dig deeper into the data and its application to their practice, Optometric Medical Solutions (OMS) will be providing a practice-specific 30-minute consultation and personalized recommendations that will advise them on whether they are over or under coding, if reimbursements and codes represent the full scope of their practice, if the practice is following a clinical protocol for E & M codes, how to adjust fee schedules while following the best practices in coding and overall improved coding strategies for their practice.

“While the public release of Medicare data broadcasting providers’ payments and activity may be somewhat controversial, we see the prospect here for providers to better measure, understand and improve their business and patient services” said Ron Krefman, OD, founder of focalCenter. He continued, “Our analysis applied to this fresh data, opens a new perspective and reveals opportunities. This report coupled with the 30-minute consultation from OMS provides the opportunity to use the data in a meaningful manner while improving the overall outcome for the practice and the patient.”
