Erik Weissberg, OD.

BOSTON—The New England College of Optometry (NECO) has named Erik Weissberg, OD, FAAO, as the college’s next vice president and dean of academic affairs, beginning May 1, 2019. Dr. Weissberg graduated from NECO in 1997, before going on to complete a residency in pediatrics in 1998. That same year, he was appointed assistant professor in the specialty and care advanced program at NECO and in 2009 was promoted to professor of optometry with tenure. In 2008, Dr. Weissberg was named director of clinical education, a role he has served in ever since.

Throughout his career, Dr. Weissberg has been an active member of the scientific research community, a grant reviewer for the NIH, an author of multiple manuscripts, a prolific lecturer, and has led his own research on strabismus and international eyecare delivery. He has also developed a clinical expertise in pediatrics optometry, focusing on strabismus and amblyopia.

In addition, Dr. Weissberg has been recognized with teaching awards and honors by students, faculty and the Massachusetts Association of Optometrists throughout his time at NECO, and has been a career-long mentor to many students and colleagues.
